Fitness Testing

The state of Georgia has mandated that students in Georgia public schools participate in a physical fitness test to determine the fitness level of our students. The state has adopted the "Fitnessgram" as the test for Georgia students.

Information on the Fitnessgram is available at their website: Fitnessgram.net.

Students in the grades 1-3 will be measured on height and weight only. The height and weight along with the students age will be used to calculate the student's Body Mass Index (BMI). The BMI is a widely accepted measure to determine if a person has a healthy body weight. This information will be sent to the State Department of Education as a method to collect data on our students. There will not be a report sent to parents on this information.

Students in 4th and 5th grades will participate in the following fitness tests:

Aerobic Capacity - PACER Run

Muscular strength/endurance- push-ups, curl-ups

Flexibility- Back Saver Sit and Reach

Body Mass Index- Height, weight, age

A Fitnessgram report will be mailed home with the final report card based on the child's scores on the test items. There is not a pass or fail on the test, but rather a designation of being in the "Healthy Fitness Zone" or not in each area tested.

If you have any questions or concerns about the test please contact me at school.  My e-mail is khanson@glynn.k12.ga.us or call @ 279-1509  Ext. 5568
