Due:

K-5 Unit 2, Lesson 3, Music Affects Moods in Google Classroom

K-5 Unit 2, Lesson 3, Music Affects Moods

Again, please don't be scared off by what the time says on my videos because my editing program always leaves a ton of blank space at the end of each video and it always says it's 20-30 minutes longer than it actually is. I'm trying to find out how to get it to stop doing that!

My videos run between 10- 15 minutes, but this one is a little longer this week than usual because I've added examples for both grade levels within this one video. So, please watch this week's lesson video (K-5 Unit 2, Lesson 3, Music Affects Moods) and then "Just Sing" K-2 and "Happy Song" 3-4-5 in addition to it.
Answer these two questions in the message area of this assignment before you click, "turn in:"

1. How do these songs make you feel?
2. What makes them this way? (speed/tempo, dark/bright sounds, heavy/light)

These are the two additional videos to watch:
Kindergarten, First and Second: “Just Sing”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoJtK7upCdg
Third – Fourth and Fifth Grades: Listen to “Happy Song” and answer the same questions above:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAXXI5YobrM

Due:

3-4-5, Music is Tuneful, lesson 2, F Pentatonic in Google Classroom

3-4-5, Music is Tuneful, lesson 2, F Pentatonic

1. Watch the video to learn about F Pentatonic, FGA, C& D! In the video, you will learn the melody of a popular French song. AFTER you watch Mrs. Mac's video, you should be able to play the French melody.
F FFF C F A C C C C C A F
F FFF C F A C C C C C F
2. Click on the French song in Youtube and make it small on your screen so you can bring up the virtual piano or virtual xylophone with it (split screen) and play along. Lucky you if you have a touch screen, otherwise, you have to play the virtual piano with your mouse. That can slow you down on the melody, because it's rather fast!
3. So, if the melody is too fast, play the F & C ostinato along with it instead. You'll have to pick one of the notes to play, because the virtual piano won't play two notes at once, like a real piano. Sorry! Have fun using the virtual piano or xylophone and playing the F Pentatonic notes along with the song, in any rhythm! F G A, C & D will go along nicely with the Youtube video. Don't forget to click "turn in" to let me know you gave it a try! I love hearing how you are doing - so message me as well! Have a great week!
Virtual hugs
Mrs. Mac

Due:

K-2 Unit 2, Lesson 2, High and Low Sounds in Google Classroom

K-2 Unit 2, Lesson 2, High and Low Sounds

Watch this week's video on High and Low Pitches, We'll be singing two little songs today that have motions.
Stand to sing the songs so you can do the motions, such as, reaching high into the sky and then touching the floor.
Remember that high pitches do not mean loud, and low pitches do not mean soft! That's a common misunderstanding in young children.

When you have sung the songs with Mrs. Mac, teach them to your parents and siblings at home. It's so good to sing because singing makes us happy!!!

Click "turn in" when you have finished watching the video. Have a great week! I love hearing from you either on your assignment, or messages in Dojo or e-mail.
Virtual hugs,
Mrs. Mac

Due:

3-4-5 Unit 2, Lesson 1 Music is Tuneful in Google Classroom

3-4-5 Unit 2, Lesson 1 Music is Tuneful

This week we start a new unit on pitch, making melodies and tunes because, Music is Tuneful! In Unit 1, we worked mostly on creating and performing rhythms, but that's only half of what we need to know to make music! The other half, is pitch. We're going to focus on the Pentatonic scale (C,D,E, G & A) and create some melodis.

Your assignment:
Watch this week's lesson video
Practice the worksheet pitches in solfege (Do, Re, Mi, etc.) with the virtual piano I've provided for you
Make some melodies on Chrome Music Lab, melody Maker
After doing this, click on "turn in" and that's it! Just let me know you did these things:)

I love hearing from you or your parents in class Dojo messages, here on Google Classroom or e-mail, so let me know if you have any questions or IF you would like for me to hear the melodies you create on melody Maker!
Have a great week creating new tunes and melodies!
Virtual hugs - Mrs. Mac:)

Due:

K-2 Unit 2, Lesson 1 Different Voices in Google Classroom

K-2 Unit 2, Lesson 1 Different Voices

Watch the video to learn about your four different voices, and then, try to learn the song, "This Train," It'd be so great for you and your parents to learn it together and sing it at home as a "get read" song, i.e., get ready to study, get ready for dinner, get ready for bath, etc.
Kindergarten will enjoy the additional video about using different voices!
First and Second graders will enjoy the book about voice volumes: Decibella and Her 6 Inch Voice

Parents:
I had a family needing a PDF of my lesson plan, so I've attached the PDF AND the Word document of it.
I love it when you join your child for music and use the plan as a map, or to explain the concepts being presented.

The assignment! After listening to the lesson video and the extra resource, click on "turn in" so I know you did it. That's it! Have a great week making music. You are the lucky ones who get to sing in your lessons!!! We can't do that just yet in our face-to-face classes becuase of COVID 19.

Due:

3-5 Unit 1, Lesson 3 Reading and playing rhythms in Google Classroom

3-5 Unit 1, Lesson 3 Reading and playing rhythms

3-5 please disregard the assignment for K-2! Unfortunately, we can't seem to separate everyone at this point.
Watch the video below (it's the same one that's in the lesson plan)
Note* we read music from left to right - I said, "right to left" in the video, forgetting that what I'm showing is backwards - sorry!

Go to the link to my calendar to retrieve this week's lesson plan.
Watch the Virtual video and practice the rhythm videos that are within that video.
Go to the lesson plan and see some additional videos to become a 4!
Remember, practice takes time and you will learn to play rhythms if you give it some time!
We are doing this in class, so YOU will be a pro musician in no time at all, instead of falling behind IF you practice!
1. print out the rhythm cards and cut them out
2. lay them in order to make 4 beats, like I did in the video
3. take a picture and send it to me!
4. Compose two measures (8 beats) on the composition attachment and send it to me.
If you have any questions let me know!
This assignment is due by Thursday, September 10, at 3:00 p.m. Be sure your name and teacher's name is on it.
Virtual hugs!
Mrs. Mac

Due:

3rd, 4th and 5th grades alternate assignment in Google Classroom

3rd, 4th and 5th grades alternate assignment

Since we're having some difficulty drawing notes and returning it to me, I would like for you to try Jamboard. Click on the attachment and Jamboard has a pen on which you can click and draw with your computer mouse. It is located on the left side of the board. Draw two measures of notes and return it to me. Be sure your first and last names are on it, and put your classroom teacher's name on it too.

Due:

Alternate K-2 assignment in Google Classroom

Alternate K-2 assignment

Draw two quarter notes and two pairs of eighth notes on Jamboard for me. You can use your computer's mouse to draw by clicking on the pen in the upper left-hand corner. We want you to be able to identify that a quarter note gets one beat, and sounds like "DAD" or "TAH" or any other one syllable word. We also want you to understand that two eighth notes barred together sound like "ap-ple" or "TI-TI" and these are shorter sounds made together, and are different from a sound like, "DAD" or "TAH" - together, long and short sounds, we make rhythm. If you watched the videos with the powerpoint presentations and practiced performing the rhythms for the past two weeks, this should make some sense to you! If you are still having difficulties, let me know.
K-2, just draw four "beats" which can be any combination of eighth note pairs and quarter notes, just like I did on the Jamboard attachment.
