Helms, Shattuck, Sloan Week of: Oct. 17 - Oct. 21 MATH SCIENCE Science and Social Studies instruction alternates between weeks SOCIAL STUDIES Science and Social Studies instruction alternates between weeks Monday - Oct. 17 Standard(s):3.NBT.1 Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100. LT: We are learning to round to the nearest ten and hundred. SC: I am successful when I can use a vertical number line to round two-and three-digit numbers to the nearest ten. Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson 13 Round two - and three - digit numbers to the nearest ten on the vertical number line. Standard(s):S3E2a & b S3E2. LT: I am learning how fossils are evidence of past organisms and their environments. SC: ❑ I can observe fossils to gather evidence of past organisms. ❑ I can make predictions of an organisms environment based on other fossils present. ❑ I can describe past environments by observing fossils from that time and place. Lesson/Activity:How a fossil is formed (activity). Standard(s): LT: SC: Lesson/Activity: Tuesday - Oct. 18 Standard(s):3.NBT.1 Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100. LT: We are learning to round to the nearest ten and hundred. SC: I am successful when I can use a vertical number line to round to the nearest hundred. Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson 14 Round to the nearest hundred on the vertical number line. Standard(s): S3E2a & b S3E2. SC: ❑ I can observe fossils to gather evidence of past organisms. ❑ I can make predictions of an organisms environment based on other fossils present. ❑ I can describe past environments by observing fossils from that time and place. Lesson/Activity: How a fossil is formed (activity). Standard(s): LT: SC: Lesson/Activity: Wednesday - Oct. 19 Standard(s): 3.NBT.2 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction. LT: We are learning to use the algorithm to add 2- and 3-digit measurements. SC: I am successful when I can add measurements with the algorithm to compose larger units once and twice. Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson 15/16 Add measurements using the standard algorithm to compose larger units once. Standard(s): S3E2a & b S3E2. Lesson/Activity: Mystery Science (no supplies needed) Standard(s): LT: SC: Lesson/Activity: Thursday - Oct. 20 Standard(s):3.NBT.2 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction. LT: We are learning to use the algorithm to add 2- and 3-digit measurements. SC: I am successful when I can solve measurement word problems by estimating sums. Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson 17 Estimate sums by rounding and apply to solve measurement word problems. Standard(s):S3E2a & b S3E2. Standard(s): LT: SC: Lesson/Activity: Friday- Oct. 21 Standard(s): 3.NBT.2 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction. LT: We are learning to use the algorithm to add 2- and 3-digit measurements. SC: I am successful when I can decompose once and twice to subtract measurements with 3 - digit minuends. Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson 18/19 Decompose once to subtract measurements including three-digit minuends with zeros in the tens or ones place. Standard(s): S3E2a & b S3E2. LT: I am learning how fossils are evidence of past organisms and their environments.
