Module 2

Lesson 9

Standard(s): 3.NR.1.3 Use place value understanding to round whole numbers up to 1000 to the nearest 10 or 100.

LT: We are learning to round numbers within 1,000.

SC: I can identify my rules for rounding up.

I can identify my rules for rounding down

I can round a number to the nearest 10.

Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson  9

Students formulate the descriptions of numbers as closer to or about a ten as rounding to the nearest ten.  They plot measurements on a vertical number line, focusing on the position of the measurement between two tens, as a model to support rounding.

S3E2a, S3E2b

Standard:S3E2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information on how fossils provide evidence of past organisms. a. Construct an argument from observations of fossils (authentic or reproductions) to communicate how they serve as evidence of past organisms and the environments in which they lived. b. Develop a model to describe the sequence and conditions required for an organism to become fossilized.

LT: We are learning how fossils are evidence of past organisms and their environments.

SC:  I will know I’m successful when I can…

  • Observe fossils to gather evidence of past organisms.

  • I can make predictions of an organism's environment based on other fossils present.

  • I can describe past environments by observing fossils from that time and place.

Module 2

Lesson 10

Standard(s): 3.NR.1.3 Use place value understanding to round whole numbers up to 1000 to the nearest 10 or 100.

LT: We are learning to round numbers within 1,000.

SC: I can identify my rules for rounding up.

I can identify my rules for rounding down

I can round a number to the nearest 10.

Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson  10

Students use familiar measurement contexts to round two and three digit numbers to the nearest ten.  They rename 3-digit numbers by using tens and ones and think about which tens the renamed numbers are closer to.

Standard: S3E2

Module 2

Lesson 11

Standard(s): 3.NR.1.3 Use place value understanding to round whole numbers up to 1000 to the nearest 10 or 100.

LT: We are learning to round numbers within 1,000.

SC: I can identify my rules for rounding up.

I can identify my rules for rounding down.

I can round a number to the nearest 100.

I can use a number line to support rounding.

Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson 11

Students use familiar measurements to think about rounding three and four digit numbers to the nearest hundred.  Students also round measurements in context to the nearest hundred.
