Week of: October 30-November 3, 2023 MATH SCIENCE Science and Social Studies instruction alternates between weeks SOCIAL STUDIES Science and Social Studies instruction alternates between weeks Monday Module 2 Lesson 21 Standard(s): 3.PAR.2.1 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 to solve problems. LT: We are learning to fluently add and subtract within 1,000. SC: I can use more than one strategy to solve addition and subtraction problems accurately and efficiently. Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson 21 Students use drawings on a place value chart to compose a larger unit twice when adding two- and three- digit numbers. Students use vertical form with the new groups below strategy and the totals below strategy to record their work and to compare the two written methods. Students reason about the efficiency of the standard algorithm compared with other addition strategies. Standard: SS3H2 Describe European exploration in North America. a. Describe the reasons for and obstacles to the exploration of North America. b. Describe the accomplishments of: John Cabot (England), Vasco Núñez de Balboa (Spain), Hernando de Soto (Spain), Christopher Columbus (Spain), Henry Hudson (The Netherlands), and Jacques Cartier (France). c. Describe examples of cooperation and conflict between European explorers and American Indians. LT: I am learning to describe European SC: I will know I’m successful when I can… I can describe the reasons for the European exploration of North America. (Three G’s: God, Gold, and Glory”) I can describe four obstacles faced by European exploration in North America. Lesson/Activity: Explorers - Pittman Created Click on the map of Age of Exploration on the wall. Tuesday Module 2 Lesson 22 Standard(s): 3.PAR.2.1 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 to solve problems. LT: We are learning to fluently add and subtract within 1,000. SC: I can use more than one strategy to solve addition and subtraction problems accurately and efficiently. Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson 22 Students use place value disks to decompose a larger unit once to subtract two- and three- digit numbers with the standard algorithm. They make an estimate before subtracting and use their estimate to assess the reasonableness of their answer. Standard: SS3H2 Describe European exploration in North America. a. Lesson/Activity: John Cabot Wednesday Module 2 Lesson 23 Standard(s): 3.PAR.2.1 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 to solve problems. LT: We are learning to fluently add and subtract within 1,000. SC: I can use more than one strategy to solve addition and subtraction problems accurately and efficiently. Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson 23 Students draw to represent place value disks on a place value chart and use the standard algorithm to subtract two- and three- digit numbers that require decomposition of larger units twice they make an estimate before subtracting and use their estimate to assess the reasonableness of their answer. Lesson/Activity: Balboa Thursday Module 24 Standard(s): 3.PAR.2.1 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 to solve problems. LT: We are learning to fluently add and subtract within 1,000. SC: I can use more than one strategy to solve addition and subtraction problems accurately and efficiently. Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson 24 Students draw to represent place value disks on a place value chart. They use the standard algorithm to subtract three-digit numbers that require decomposing larger units across place values when the tens digit is 0. They make an estimate before subtracting and use their estimate to assess the reasonableness of their answer. Students also analyze problems to determine where the standard algorithm is a useful strategy. Standard: SS3H2 Describe European exploration in North America. a. Lesson/Activity: Desoto Friday Module 2 Lesson 25 TOPIC D QUIZ Standard(s): 3.PAR.2.1 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 to solve problems. LT: We are learning to fluently add and subtract within 1,000. SC: I can use more than one strategy to solve addition and subtraction problems accurately and efficiently. Lesson/Activity: Module 2 Lesson 25 Students apply the strategies they have learned to solve two-step word problems involving all four operations. After working independently to solve each problem, students share their work by comparing and connecting solution strategies. Standard: SS3H2 Describe European exploration in North America. a.
