MONDAY


Module 4

Lesson 1

Standard(s): 3.GSR.6.2 Classify, compare, and contrast polygons, with a focus on quadrilaterals, based on properties. Analyze specific 3-dimensional figures to identify and describe quadrilaterals as faces of these figures.


LT: We are learning to classify, compare and contrast polygons. 


SC: I can  describe the attributes of a square, rectangle, rhombus, parallelogram, trapezoid, kite, and other polygons.  

I can classify polygons and find similarities and differences between polygons.


Lesson/Activity: Module 4 Lesson 1 

Students explore attributes of polygons, specifically squares, rectangles, and trapezoids.  They identify quadrilaterals that have particular attributes and use the attributes to describe relationships between and within quadrilaterals.  (Vocabulary:  observe).


Standard(s):  SS3H3 Explain the factors that shaped British Colonial America.

b. Compare and contrast colonial life in the Southern colonies (education, economy, and religion).


LT: I am learning to explain how the location of the New England colonies shaped their development.


SC: I can explain how the climate of the New England 

    colonies impacted the ability to farm.

I can describe what types of businesses made up the 

     economy of the New England colonies.

I can explain how religion influenced the 

    development of the New England colonies.

I can describe education in the New England colonies.

I can describe the government and the role of 

     citizens in the New England colonies.

TUESDAY


Module 4

Lesson 2

Standard(s): 3.GSR.7.1 Investigate area by covering the space of rectangles presented in realistic situations using multiple copies of the same unit, with no gaps or overlaps, and determine the total area (total number of units that covered the space).
 

3.GSR.7.2  Determine the area of rectangles (or shapes composed of rectangles) presented in relevant problems by tiling and counting.


LT: We are learning to find area of rectangles by tiling and counting. 


SC: I can cover a rectangle by tiling with no gaps or overlaps.

I can count the tiles to solve for the area of a rectangle

I can solve real-world relevant problems, including word problems, for area.


Lesson/Activity: Module 4 Lesson  2

Students tile polygons with squares and half-squares to find area.  They see that polygons with the same shape can have different areas and that different shapes can have the same area. (Vocabulary:  areasquare”.)

3.GSR.7.2  Determine the area of rectangles (or shapes composed of rectangles) presented in relevant problems by tiling and counting.


LT: We are learning to find area of rectangles by tiling and counting. 


SC: I can cover a rectangle by tiling with no gaps or overlaps.

I can count the tiles to solve for the area of a rectangle

I can solve real-world relevant problems, including word problems, for area. 


Lesson/Activity: Module 4 Lesson  3

Students tile polygons to measure area and use tiles to make different polygons with the same area.  They draw representations to show the area of a polygon.

THURSDAY

Standard(s): 3.GSR.7.1 Investigate area by covering the space of rectangles presented in realistic situations using multiple copies of the same unit, with no gaps or overlaps, and determine the total area (total number of units that covered the space).
 

LT: We are learning to find the area of a rectangle.


SC:  I can use a repeating non-standard unit square to cover a rectangle.

I can use non-standard unit square with no gaps or overlaps.

I can determine the total area of the rectangle.

I can find the area of a rectangle for realistic situations.


Lesson/Activity: Module 4 Lesson  4

Students build rectangles with squares of different sizes and realize that different units cover different amounts of space.  Students define and measure square inches and square centimeters and use these units to describe and compare the areas of rectangles.

TOPIC A QUIZ-IF TIME

Standard(s): 3.GSR.7.2 Determine the area of rectangles (or shapes composed of rectangles) presented in relevant problems by tiling and counting.
3.GSR.7.3 Discover and explain how area can be found by multiplying the dimensions of a rectangle.


LT: We are learning to find area with multiplication.


SC: I can relate area to multiplication using arrays.

I can describe the dimensions of a rectangle as length and width OR base and height.

I can use the correct units for area. 


Lesson/Activity: Module 4 Lesson  5

Students measure the side lengths of tiles and relate them to length units.  They build rectangles with tiles and trace the rectangles on a grid.   Students then remove the grid and draw their own to confirm the areas of the rectangle.
