Week of: February 5-9, 2024 MATH SOCIAL STUDIES Science and Social Studies instruction alternates between weeks Module 4 Lesson 11 3.GSR.7.2 Determine the area of rectangles (or shapes composed of rectangles) presented in relevant problems by tiling and counting. LT: We are learning to find area with multiplication using the break apart strategy. SC: I can use the break apart strategy for area. I can use multiplication to find the area of a rectangle. Lesson/Activity: Module 4 Lesson 11 Students decompose a large rectangle into two smaller rectangles. They use the break apart and distribute strategy to find the area of the large rectangle. Standard(s): SS3H3 Explain the factors that shaped British Colonial America. b. Compare and contrast colonial life in the Southern colonies (education, economy, and religion). LT: I am learning to explain how the location of the Mid-Atlantic colonies shaped their development. SC: I can why the Mid-Atlantic colonies were considered the “breadbasket” of the colonies. I can explain why the climate of the Mid-Atlantic colonies supported the growth of grain. I can explain how religion influenced the development of the Mid-Atlantic colonies. I can explain why Quakers settled in Pennsylvania. I can describe education in the New England colonies. I can describe the government and the role of citizens in the Mid-Atlantic colonies. Lesson/Activity: Fur trading simulation. Module 4 Lesson 12 3.GSR.7.2 Determine the area of rectangles (or shapes composed of rectangles) presented in relevant problems by tiling and counting. LT: We are learning to find area with multiplication using the commutative and associative properties. SC: I can use the commutative and associative strategies for area. I can use multiplication to find the area of a rectangle. Lesson/Activity: Module 4 Lesson 12 Students find sets of possible side lengths for a rectangle with a given area. They apply the commutative and associative properties to multiplication expressions representing the area of the rectangle to generate new expressions Students strategically check to see whether they have found all possible side lengths for rectangles within the given area. Lesson/Activity: Read Quakers and the Middle Colonies Skip pages 4 & 5. We are not making a poster. Complete the Quaker notes as a class or you can make copies for students. Module 4 Lesson 13 TOPIC C QUIZ Standard(s): 3.GSR.7.3 Discover and explain how area can be found by multiplying the dimensions of a rectangle. LT: We are learning to find area with multiplication. SC: I can use the correct units for area. I can use multiplication to find the area of a rectangle Lesson/Activity: Module 4 Lesson 13 Students select strategies to represent and solve area word problems by using drawings and equations. After working independently to solve the problem, students share their work to compare and connect various representations and strategies. TOPIC C QUIZ Standard(s): SS3H3 Explain the factors that shaped British Colonial America. b. Compare and contrast colonial life in the Southern colonies (education, economy, and religion). LT: I am learning to explain how the location of the Mid-Atlantic colonies shaped their development. SC: I can why the Mid-Atlantic colonies were considered the “breadbasket” of the colonies. I can explain why Quakers settled in Pennsylvania. I can describe education in the New England colonies. I can describe the government and the role of citizens in the Mid-Atlantic colonies. Lesson/Activity: Module 4 Lesson 14 Standard(s): 3.GSR.7.3 Discover and explain how area can be found by multiplying the dimensions of a rectangle. LT: We are learning to find area with multiplication using composite shapes. SC: I can use the correct units for area. I can use multiplication to find the area of a composite shape. Lesson/Activity: Module 4 Lesson 14 Students find the area of composite shape by finding the areas of rectangles within the shape and adding them together. Students then explore other strategies, such as finding the area of a larger rectangle and subtracting the area that is not part of the shape. I can explain why Quakers settled in Pennsylvania. I can describe education in the New England colonies. I can describe the government and the role of citizens in the Mid-Atlantic colonies. Lesson/Activity: Review for unit assessment. Module 4 Lesson 15 Standard(s): 3.GSR.7.3 Discover and explain how area can be found by multiplying the dimensions of a rectangle. LT: We are learning to find area with multiplication using composite shapes. SC: I can use the correct units for area. I can use multiplication to find the area of a composite shape. Lesson/Activity: Module 4 Lesson 15 Students are introduced to a composite shape without a grid. They use the attributes of rectangles to find the area of a shaded shape. Students draw a model and solve an area word problem, seeing subtraction as an efficient strategy.. Standard(s): SS3H3 Explain the factors that shaped British Colonial America. b.
