Week of: March 5-8, 2024 MATH SCIENCE Science and Social Studies instruction alternates between weeks Monday Tuesday MAP TESTING 3.NR.4.1 Describe a unit fraction and explain how multiple copies of a unit fraction form a non-unit fraction. Use parts of a whole, parts of a set, points on a number line, distances on a number line and area models. 3.NR.4.2 Compare two unit fractions by flexibly using a variety of tools and strategies. 3.NR.4.4 Recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions. LT: We are learning to identify unit fractions and use them to form non-unit fractions. SC: I can describe a unit fraction with parts of a whole. I can describe a unit fraction with parts of a set. Lesson/Activity: Module 5 Lesson 6 Students cut paper strips to create unit fraction tiles. They duplicate the unit fraction tiles to build and name non-unit fractions. Students write a non-unit fraction in fraction form for the first time. Standard(s): S3P1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the ways heat energy is transferred and measured. b. Plan and carry out an investigation to gather data using thermometers to produce tables and charts that illustrate the effect of sunlight on various objects. (Clarification statement: The use of both Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature scales is expected.) c. Use tools and every day materials to design and construct a device/structure that will increase/decrease the warming effects of sunlight on various materials. (Clarification statement: Conduction, convection, and radiation are taught in upper grades.) LT: We are learning to use thermometers to measure the effect of sunlight on objects. SC:I can explore and explain how to use a thermometer using both Fahrenheit and Celsius. I can use a thermometer to collect data on the effect of the sunlight on different objects. I can use my data to create a chart (or table) to show the effect of sunlight on different objects. Lesson/Activity: Module 5 Lesson 7 Students decompose a whole into fractional units, where one unit is shaded and the rest are not. Students represent the shaded and unshaded parts by using tape diagrams, number bonds, and fractions. Standard(s): S3P1.
