Standard(s): 3.PAR.3.6.  Solve practical, relevant problems involving multiplication and division within 100 using part-whole strategies, visual representations, and/or concrete models.  3.PAR.3.7 Use multiplication and division to solve problems involving whole numbers to 100. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Justify solutions.

LT: We are learning to solve division problems within 100.

SC: I can write a division equation.

I can represent the unknown with a letter.

I can solve a division problem.

I can explain and justify the solution.

I can assess the reasonableness of my solution.

Lesson/Activity: Module 1 Lesson 18

Students solve two types of division word problems-measurement and partitive-and examine a solution strategy for each problem.  Students frame their thinking about how the context provides support for representing each type of problem.

TOPIC D QUIZ

(after teaching lesson 14)

Standard: S3E1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the physical attributes of rocks and soils.

a. Ask questions and analyze data to classify rocks by their physical attributes (color, texture, luster, and hardness) using simple tests.

LT: I am learning to classify rocks by their physical attributes.

SC:I will know I’m successful when I can…

❑ I can describe a rock's physical attributes: color, texture, luster, and hardness.
❑ I can notice patterns in the physical attributes of different rocks.
❑ I can classify rocks based on color, texture, and hardness.

Standard(s): 3.PAR.3.3 Apply properties of operations (i.e., commutative property, associative property, distributive property) to multiply and divide within 100.  3.PAR.3.7 Use multiplication and division to solve problems involving whole numbers to 100. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Justify solutions.

LT: We are learning to use a variety of strategies to represent single-digit multiplication and division.

SC:I can apply properties of operations to multiply within 10.

Lesson/Activity: Module 1 Lesson 19

Students apply the break apart and distribute strategy to breaking apart the rows of an array and representing their work using a series of equations.  Students extend the break apart and distribute strategy to multiply by 9 (by thinking about 10 minus 1).

Standard: S3E1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the physical attributes of rocks and soils.

a. Ask questions and analyze data to classify rocks by their physical attributes (color, texture, luster, and hardness) using simple tests.

Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Justify solutions.

LT: We are developing our understanding of multiplication and division.

SC: I can use part-whole strategies to represent multiplication or division.

I can solve practical division multiplication or  problems within 100.

Lesson/Activity: Module 1 Lesson 21

Students establish a foundation for the associative property of multiplication by composing and decomposing arrays into three factors.  They use statements and three-factor multiplication expressions to represent the groups of arrays.

Standard: S3E1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the physical attributes of rocks and soils.
