| Standard(s): 3.GSR.7.2 Determine the area of rectangles (or shapes composed of rectangles) presented in relevant problems by tiling and counting. 3.GSR.7.3 Discover and explain how area can be found by multiplying the dimensions of a rectangle.
LT: We are learning to find area with multiplication. SC: I can relate area to multiplication using arrays. I can describe the dimensions of a rectangle as length and width OR base and height. I can use the correct units for area.
Lesson/Activity: Module 4 Lesson 6 Students trace tiles on grid paper and draw their own grids to form rectangles, count the squares,and find the area. They are encouraged to choose an efficient counting method, such as skip-counting. Students relate the side lengths to the number of rows or columns in the rectangle.. |
